Poverty in America essays Poverty in the United States is getting worse each day and not enough is getting done about it. There are people who want to help the poor, but no one knows exactly how to help them. Those who are against poverty agree that something needs to be done, but they do not know how to go about getting things done. A primary reason for people not taking action is because of lack of information that is provided about issues on poverty. There is no limited amount of information about poverty. People only need to know where to go to obtain such information. Issues about poverty is not stressed enough by the media to keep America informed on what the country is going through with this problem. Poverty in America is being blamed on the system and the individual affected. The system is to blame because of social programs like welfare and social security on give a minimal amount of money to aid the poor. The Trickle Down approach which was introduced by the Reagan and Bush Administrators, was installed with the belief that by issuing a tax cut amongst the upper class would give more money into the economy that would eventually reach the lower class. A second program issued was the Interventionist approach, which was an action made on behalf of the federal government to help educate and employ the poor in order to help them attain a job career. Unfortunately, these social programs was not able to keep up with the inflation rates and the constant want of material goods by the poor, created by the need to fit in with the middle and upper classes (Burton, 1992). As individuals, poverty is being blamed because of the lifestyles that families live in today. It is said that because of the lack of support in poor families, individuals raised in poverty are likely to fail as adults (Bradbury, 2001).
